REVIEW: Scosche backSTAGE pro – iPad Headrest Mount

October 3, 2011 by Nick Pluim

This week I got my hands on the Scosche backSTAGE pro – Headrest Mount for the iPad [1st Generation]. The first thing I noticed about the backSTAGE pro is its durable construction. I have found that many other iPad headrest mounts are constructed of plastic and use a strap to attach to the headrest, which seem to fit loosely while driving. The backSTAGE pro is constructed of aluminum and is attached with brackets. The aluminum construction and brackets assure that your iPad will be safely secured. The brackets are adjustable for a universal design that will fit any car. The mount tilts to allow for multiple viewing angles. The backSTAGE pro includes a power cable that connects from the mount to your car’s 12v DC outlet. The power cable has a magnetic loop attached that allows you to secure the cord to the base of the seat.

The backSTAGE pro comes in two parts, the mount and the iPad headrest case. The case can be easily attached or detached from the mount with the push of a button, located on the back of the case. The unit also includes built-in channels for wireless IR headphones and a USB port. The USB port supports flash drives (note: USB flash drive must be in DCIM format). The only problem I found with the unit is that it only fits the 1st Generation iPad. Scosche has other headrest mounts available for the iPad 2, however they don’t seem to have the same aluminum construction with brackets for mounting.

Amazon is currently sold out of the backSTAGE pro, however it is still available directly through Scosche on their company website.
