When you think of screen protectors, you usually imagine a slim piece of flexible plastic between your thumb and your screen. There’s another kind, made out of tempered glass, and they generally offer a bit better protection than a plastic screen. Today we’ll take a look at one of them called the Simple Snap.
Simple Snap is available for most types of iPhone and iPad, plus the GS4/5. They are also available for the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. As the name implies, they are designed to be easy to install. You wipe your screen off, pull the bottom sticker off to reveal the adhesive side and snap down. The screen protector comes in a mold that’s designed to fit the contours of your phone. It’s really that easy. You may also have to wrangle some air bubbles depending on how clean your screen really is and your model of phone.
Simple Snap on an iPhone 5S
When used on an iPhone 5S, I honestly didn’t even know it was there. The screen protector’s full face and the hole placement is pretty much right on. There were no air bubbles in the installation. Honestly, it performed just like it were Apple’s own glass. There was no lag or difference of feel when it came to touching the screen. It wasn’t a problem for the phone’s case either. It’s just another layer that gets scratched up instead of your phone glass. When it’s too scratched up for you to read anything, you simply replace it with another one. It works exactly as an add-on screen protector should.
For $30, it’s something that everyone with an older iPhone should seriously consider.
Use on the iPhone 6 Plus
The iPhone 6 Plus version isn’t as seamless as the one for the 5S. I’ll say that right away. It’s not entirely Simple Snap’s fault either. The iPhone 5/5S/5C and earlier versions are basically flat. The iPhone 6 Plus has some curves to it and no, I’m not talking about bendgate. The glass is actually curved around the edges. That creates a bit of a nightmare for screen protector companies as what worked with earlier iPhones no longer works here.
The Simple Snap for 6 Plus doesn’t cover the whole face like the 5S part. It stops on the edges of the touch screen on the sides and doesn’t fully cover the mic hole up top of the Touch ID button on the bottom. The screen protector is fully functional except for maybe the last millimeter on the sides, but it’s also not winning on style points. It’s very noticeable.
Pricing and Availibility
The Tempered Glass Simple Snap is $29.99 for the iPhone 5/S, 5C, iPhone 6, and the Samsung Galaxy S4 and S5. Its $39.99 for the 6 Plus and iPad Mini and $49.99 for the iPad Air. Pricing is about par for glass screen protectors.
Simple Snap lives up to its name. They’re easy to apply and are great performing glass screen protectors. If you have a 5, 5S, or 5C, you’ll not even know it’s there. The 6 Plus version also performs great, but doesn’t cover the full face of the phone due to the curvature in the iPhone’s glass. That takes away from the aesthetics. Overall, these are a good value at $30-40.
