When you want extended power life on your phone, you fasten an extra battery onto the back of it. It makes it a bit bulkier, but it’s usually a decent trade-off in the extended use it brings. So why not apply the same thinking to electric cars?
That’s the plan behind the “Dock+Go” concept being put forth by Swiss car conversion company Rinspeed. The idea is to attach a two-wheeled add-on to the back of a pre-existing electric car to give it more range. The one in the concept example attaches to a smart fortwo electric car, but company founder Frank Rinderneckt says it can be adapted for any electric car. Additionally, Rinspeed sees the concept as being able to add other functionalities depending on need, such as an add-on oven module for a pizza delivery car.
Rinspeed plans to present the concept at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.
