For the first time since we began the #GetFit project, I had ZERO motivation to get to the gym yesterday. I was sluggish and just wanted to stay in bed.
The funny thing is, John was in a cheery, happy mood and ready to go workout. I think we might have a case of body swapping going on here!
I thought… maybe by the time we got to the gym I would be okay, but when Jeff and Todd greeted us, all I wanted to do was grumble at them. I had no desire to be there. The workout was hard. My body was stiff. During every single rep all I could think was “I want to quit!”.
On top of all that, Todd pushed me quite hard. In fact, harder than any work out before. He increased my weight. He had me do more sets of weights than ever.
Even though I wanted to quit, I pushed through. Normally, if Jeff or Todd asks for 12 reps, I’ll try to do 15 on at least one set. I did not do any “extra reps” yesterday, but I DID complete the work out.
Which is all that matters, right? We all have bad days. The question is what you do with your bad day.
Way to go, girl! Get those natural endorphins pumping. We all have days that ebb and flow in the gym – don’t let that brain of yours trick you. Whenever I’m having a bad day, I remind myself how fortunate I am to have this day, where my biggest problem is simply ‘no motivation’. I remind myself how many people would trade places with me, in a heartbeat – because my challenges are so small in comparison.
Cali, just remember…your unmotivated day makes my “motivated day” look sad in comparison. I should be like you and JohnP…working out, getting in shape, and being healthier. However, I don’t. So, consider the fact that your unmotivated “attitude” had more motivation than I have mustered towards exercise in YEARS! LOL
Girl’s an overachiever Eric.
You pushed through it and got it done. Great job! No one ever finished a workout thinking that they wished the hadn’t.
With my bad day, I compose myself and get in the right mind set to kill it at the gym..
When I’m not motivated to work out, I concentrate even more fully on technique. Whatever it is I’m doing, I concentrate completely on doing it. Sometimes that means not listening to my music while I’m working out, even the cardio part.
This is the first time you’ve felt unmotivated. Don’t worry. You’ll feel motivated again. You’ll have good days, great days, outstanding days! And you’ll have unmotivated days, too. Now you know. And now you know you can get past them.
An unmotivated day is a bad day to try to increase weight or reps. I’d encourage you not to let your Lifestyle Architect do that. Do a mindful workout at the level you have already had some success with, and increase the weight or reps next time. That is not failing. That is succeeding at something hard.
I have bad days and even try to get it good it is hard and one of those days was when new site launched and you saw my being cranky and looked like complaining but I was in ranting mode and trying to get away from it I had go expo what included lots of driving and that fresh the air so I get my motivation hi and refresh my thinking too
