Samsung Announces Note 3 and Galaxy Gear Smartwatch

September 4, 2013 by John P.

Bad Parking Cards

I launched a Kickstarter to make up some little cards we can all leave on those badly parked cars you see everywhere to let ’em know what we think! And the project is now 150% funded – it’s a GO! Head on over to geekbeat.tv/badparking to join in the fun.

Galaxy Note 3

The Galaxy Note 3 is the follow-up to the Note II that Cali and I love so much. It’s got a 5.7-inch screen, 13 MP rear camera, and an all new S Pen stylus that allows you to do special commands while hovering over the screen.

Galaxy Gear

We knew a Samsung smartwatch was coming, and now we know the details. The Galaxy Gear has Bluetooth connectivity to display SMS and phone calls. A 1.63″ Super AMOLED 320 x 320 screen and an 800mhz CPU, gyroscope and accelerometer. They claim a 25 hour battery life.

For photos of the new items and full details, check out our article covering the event.

Microsoft Buys Nokia’s Phone Business

Microsoft bought Nokia’s entire phone division! All 32,000 employees were purchased for $5 billion. Yep. They were bought. And Nokia will also license their entire patent library to Microsoft for 10 years. By which time those patents will probably all be obsolete.

Verizon Buys Itself From Vodaphone

Verizon has bought out 100% of Vodaphone’s position in Verizon Wireless. Verizon Wireless used to be a joint venture mashup between Bell Atlantic Mobile, GTE Wireless and Vodafone. Until Verizon ponied up $130 Billion to bring Wireless home.
