Sling is now shipping the SlingTV we told you about a couple months back. The SlingTV replaces the Slingbox 500, which it is based upon, in the company’s lineup. Slingbox 500 owners will receive a free upgrade to the SlingTV software. The SlingTV will cost $299 retail. The Slingbox M1 announced right along side the SlingTV has been shipping for $149.

SlingTV is a powerful Slingbox that gives customers access to their pay TV channels (live or recorded) on a laptop or desktop personal computer, tablet or phone at home or anywhere in the world a network connection is available. Additionally, SlingTV is designed to make the living room TV experience more enjoyable and powerful by turning the television to which SlingTV is connected into a “Smarter TV” without having to purchase a new TV or pay for a set-top box upgrade. SlingTV features a vibrant electronic programming guide (EPG) that utilizes cover-art tiles similar to Slingplayer for iPad’s Media Gallery. Existing Slingbox 500 customers are automatically receiving the SlingTV software upgrade this week for FREE to enable SlingTV features on their Slingbox 500 hardware. All new Slingbox 500 and SlingTV purchasers will get the FREE software update when they first configure their device. In order to take full advantage of the SlingTV features, both new and existing Slingbox 500/SlingTV customers must run component (red, green, blue along with red/white audio) and HDMI cables out of their set top box into the respective inputs on SlingTV. They can then run just HDMI out from SlingTV to the big screen TV.
