Major Apple Security Issue Affects All iOS and OSX Devices
First things first! Apple has had a MAJOR security breach on both Macs and ALL iOS devices. They’ve pushed out a security update for iOS, but have yet to release a patch for Macs. If you’ve been accessing secure sites like your bank or email, or using Safari to send any sensitive information, you’re at risk of having that information accessed. So go to geekbeat.tv/SSLHole to get all the details and find out how to update your iOS device to protect yourself. On a Mac, stay out of native Apple apps and don’t use Safari – go use Chrome for now until they get a patch out.

Smartwatches Invade Barcelona
This week is also Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
LG did some updating to their line of phones. HP announced new tablets. Nokia showed off their first line of Android phones. Alcatel announced their new OneTouch phone. A brand new phone called Geeksphone was announced and it can run either Android or Firefox OS.
But it seems wearables are really the hit of Mobile World Congress so far!
LG/Google Smartwatch Possible
It’s only a rumor, but LG and Google might be teaming up to make their very own Android watch. We probably won’t know much more until Google I/O in June.
Samsung Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo
But Samsung is definitely showing off their new Gear 2, the new version of their Galaxy Gear watch. And they even launched the Gear 2 Neo that doesn’t have a camera for a more economical option. You can no longer use the word “Galaxy Gear” though – these are running the Tizen Linux-based operating system. These will be available in April and will have 2-3 DAYS of battery life.
They both have a 1.63 inch touchscreen, 4 gigs of storage, a better 1GHz dual core processor, 513MB of RAM, a heart rate sensor, S Voice, and they’re water resistant. And the Gear 2 has a 2MP camera that’ll capture 720p.
Huawei Talkband B1
Huawei is really stepping up the game by combining the fitness tracker wearable with a phone. The Talkband B1 will do everything you expect from a fitness tracker – track your calories, your steps and sleep. And in addition to all of that, it serves as a Bluetooth earpiece for making calls. You pop out the display and stick it in your ear. We’ll have to see how it works, but I love the idea. THIS is where smartwatches really need to go rather than the Dick Tracy style of talking to your hand. And… they promise 6 days of battery life.
The Ibis is also approaching the smartwatch from a different angle. It’s a beautiful watch made out of stainless steel. AND it has room for BOTH your clock AND notifications. So unlike other smartwatches, you can get all the information at once. It’s compatible with both Android and iOS using Bluetooth 4.0. I really want to see this one in action! But alas, no pricing info yet
Better Bacon App Teaches You What Really Matters
Okay, I know, you’ve been waiting for that bacon, right?? Thanks to viewer Daniel Timoldi for sending this my way. The Better Bacon App. Unfortunately it’s iOS only, but it’s such an awesome app that you may even consider buying an iOS device just for the app!!!
Maybe that’s a little much. But it is a really cool app! It has soooo much information – like a book – on the history of bacon, the different types of bacon, how you can make your own bacon and cure it and store it… and it also gives you all sorts of bacon recipes. Bacon for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Did you know you can make Bacon Cocktails???
Haven’t tried it yet, but it’s free! Let me know what you think!
