An Engineered Home Theater
There are many levels of home theater, from a big screen TV and a speaker set you can buy at Costco, to a professionally engineered system that takes everything into account and gives you an amazing experience. Starpower is the company to turn to for help in making your home theater its best and we took a tour of their demo room, a home theater setup that would cost half a million dollars.
Intricate Sound Absorption
We were interested to see the variations in sound deadening within the theater room. Different materials were used in different places, to create an solid total experience.
A REALLY Big Screen
The screen in the demo room was a Vutech Vision X – it’s 153 inches and costs $50,000. But it’s got some extra fancy options, such as being able to adjust its aspect ratio to match the video being projected.
Video and Sound System
The projector was a 4K model from Sony, and the sound is a JBL Synthesis system, as used at Lucasfilm’s Skywalker Ranch. It has nine speakers and four subwoofers. That’s all controlled by a custom-built component rack that’s certified to meet JBL standards. The videos are provided by a Kaleidescape server that stores movies in an uncompressed format.
Hydraulic Recliners Synced to the Film
The final parts of this high-end puzzle are the chairs, which use D-Box technology. They aren’t just extremely comfortable recliners, but are actually hydraulically controlled and synced to each individual movie, so the chair will move as events unfold in the movie.
