Stratospheric Burials and Ebola Fighting Robots!

Send Your Ashes Into the Stratosphere

Next time you feel a little raindrop bounce off your forehead as you’re walking down the street, just remember… wipe it away with respect. Because it might just be someone’s ashes. After Felix Baumgartner’s jump from the stratosphere, the world has become obsessed with the beautiful view from above. And someone… somewhere… decided it would be the perfect place to scatter the ashes of a loved one who’d passed. And now, a company called Mesoloft exists just to provide that service. For $2800 – 7500, they’ll take your ashes up 17 miles in the sky in a weather balloon and attach a GoPro to give you video of the event. The GoPro will return to Earth and the ashes will float around in the atmosphere for a while traveling the outer edges of the world. It’s a beautiful thought. The only thing that MIGHT freak you out… is that they’ll eventually become part of the rain that falls down. But don’t worry. It’s not like we’re going to wind up with ash colored rain. I’m pretty sure at least….

Ebola-Treating Robots to the Rescue

Though I don’t think if you die of Ebola they’ll let your ashes be scattered about like that. But on the good news front, ROBOTS TO THE RESCUE!!! The White House is getting together with a few scientists and educational institutions to FIGHT Ebola using robots. They want to take existing robots and retrofit them so they’re able to take over the jobs of human workers who are constantly getting in harm’s way. The bots could deliver medicine and supplies, and clean up messes. Telepresence robots (like our CEABots) could replace human visits. Family members. Even doctors, could visit and monitor the patients without the need for safety suits… I’m sure that’d them feel a little less like an outcast.

Now, they’re waiting like 3 weeks to even HAVE the meeting. And implementation of the idea could take another… oh 6 months? I have no idea how long it would be until it actually happens, but it’s good that they’re thinking about it!
