It is with deep regrets that we must pass on word that the QUE is dead. Plastic Logic‘s beautifully designed but ill-timed electronic ink eReader had been plagued with bad luck since it was announced in January. Announced at $649 for a 4 gig Wi-Fi unit, it was shown up badly shortly afterward by a certain well-known competitive product which offered 64 gigs, Wi-Fi and 3G for roughly the same price. This is a true shame, as it was really a gorgeous device with a letter-sized display and the ability to read and display PDF, Word, Excel and Powerpoint documents. With that size and feature set, printing could’ve finally been a thing of the past.
Since then the QUE has languished in the realm of vaporware. That’s all in the past now. “We recognize the market has dramatically changed, and with the product delays we have experienced, it no longer make sense for us to move forward with our first generation electronic reading product,” said Plastic Logic CEO Richard Archuleta.
They’re now saying they’ll instead focus on their next-generation product, but there’s no word on exactly what, when or how much that will be.
