Researchers at the University of Bristol, England have done something quite remarkable. After about 6 years of work they have created the world’s first known re-programmable quantum photonic computer. The chip is able to entangle photons and place them in different quantum states based on how its 8 electrodes are programmed. Effectively, they have produced the worlds first, 2-qubit (quantum bit) computer! Measuring just 70mm X 3mm it is by far the smallest quantum computer in existence. It is also the only real one.
So, now we have a true quantum computer! Now we just have to figure out what we can do with it.
Are you pondering what I’m pondering, Pinky?
A re-programmable quantum photonic computer…and to think we made it to the moon with less computing power than that of a modern day calculator.
We already know what to do with it. Put it on Fringe.
Best. Comment. Ever. 🙂
