On our way to CE Week we stopped in Nashville to see what goes into making an UpDesk. Let’s take a look!
A walk through the storage area shows the amazing array of different tops that can go on UpDesks. The rooms full of tops goes on and on… and then there’s the rejects, where you can see just how small a defect will get these tops bumped down to a scratch and dent discount level.
On the factory floor we got to see the actual manufacturing process, and the materials that are used to make each piece. There’s a special washer that parts are run through prior to painting, and then they go into a dryer – which is HOT!
For painting, the footings are hung from a rack and run through a paint booth, where there are a ton of fans running. Painting is a two person job, followed by a trip into the dryer – which is basically a giant oven.
The final step is packaging and shipping. We’ve already shown you what their quality control rejects – at this step you see how much care is taken in the handling of the desk pieces.
Thanks for the tour, UpDesk! We can’t wait to get the Geek Beat Edition UpDesks set up at the Geek House, and we’ll make sure you see all that as it happens!
