TYLT showed off these speakers back in CES 2013. Among the many cool gadgets TYLT has to show this one of my favorite devices. Why? Because it puts two of my favorite gadgets in one. A power bank and speakers.
The TYLT TUNZ comes well presented in an easy to open acrylic box in which you’ll find the TUNZ, 3 sets of silicon bands, a USB charging cable, AUX cable, Carry Bag, and a User Guide. The silicon bands stood out for mebecause I haven’t seen them before in other speakers. They are meant to reduce the vibration when you’re playing these speakers off of a flat surface, a problem I’ve faced with many other portable speakers.
The speakers come with the red silicon band pre installed and inside the box you’ll find 2 extra silicon bands, blue and black. The TYLT TUNZ have a stylish front grill and 4 touch rubber buttons. These do not click like other buttons you may be used to using as these respond to simple taps, which may be an inconvenience when you’re carrying them by hand. The silicon bands help in that aspect too. On the back left you’ll see an AUX in and AUX out and on the back right you’ll find the USB charging port, a micro USB charging port and the power switch.
NFC is one of the many goodies that come with the TYLT TUNZ. It’s basically an NFC tag on the side of the speaker which can be set up with the TagStand NFC launcher App for Android. I set it up to turn on my bluetooth and open up the Google Play Music app. After the first pairing, my phone automatically connects to the TYLT TUNZ seamlessly.
The battery on this portable speaker is great for its size. I’ve used it for a few hours a couple days without charging and I’ve never been forced to charge it because of any low battery issues. That being said, it’ll probably last one evening at full volume.
One of the greatest additions to the TYLT TUNZ is the Universal USB charging port with an up to 1amp output . It’s able to recharge my phone and even keep my ipad running for a few hours.
The TUNZ contain 2 3 Watt Speakers and a Passive Radiator. The Passive Radiator is basically a speaker without the wiring. It’s able to replicate the vibrations produced by the active speaker (the one connected) and produce a fuller sound, which explains the superb bass in this tiny speakers.
Pros:
- Easy to pair
- NFC enabled
- AUX fallback
- Great Bass
Cons
- Relatively small battery for how often you’ll use it
In conclusion the TYLT TUNZ is a great little portable speaker that give you the tunes and the power to keep your gadgets running. Find them on TYLT.com for $149 plus shipping and handling.
