We had four BIG BOXES show up at the Geek House, and what’s inside will make a big difference in our working lives and even help you as viewers. The boxes are from Chatsworth, and they contain the new server racks for the Geek House, and when we get these in place, we’ll be able to work more efficiently and even do more enterprise level reviews of server gear.
Chatsworth is an industry leader in commercial IT infrastructure; they make things like racks, cable management systems… if it makes working with servers easier, they probably make it. The one we’ve got is one of the biggest racks made, the GlobalFrame Cabinet, so we should have no problem fitting stuff in. And there are wheels on the bottom, so moving them around will be a lot easier. The racks have a split door in the back so it needs less clearance away from the wall to gain access.
We also got an awesome cable channeling system that we’ll hang from the ceiling, then route our cables across them.
We’ll let you guys see how things go with installing and using this server room gear – stay tuned!
