Will Facebook Destroy VR Forever???

Instagram Hits 200 Million Users

Wow! There are now 200 MILLION people on Instagram! That’s 200 million people sharing photos of their food every day and posting selfies. You can now follow us on Instagram at instagram.com/geekbeattv Maybe I’ll have the entire team do selfies!

LEAVE FACEBOOK ALONE!!!!!

All you people care about is privacy and keeping your information safe! Zuckerberg is only human! All Facebook has ever done is give you a place to share photos and status updates with your friends and family. And now… just because they bought Oculus Rift and are going to destroy the world of virtual reality… you want to tear them apart!

LEAVE FACEBOOK ALONE!!!!! PLEASE!

Yeah, you heard me right. Facebook bought Oculus Rift for $2 billion and the world is very upset! Oculus Rift has been the sweetheart of the virtual reality world, making a fully immersive VR headset. They have geeks’ hearts. But… LOTS of people have basically given up on Oculus as a brand because they’re worried about what Facebook will do to the company, specifically when it comes to Facebook’s privacy issues.

Facebook has said that Oculus will run independently. Though that never seems to be fully true when it comes right down to it. They want to expand beyond virtual reality games and expand Oculus to VR experiences across the board. In their words “imagine enjoying a court side seat at a game, or consulting with a doctor face to face – just by putting on goggles in your home.”

This does give Oculus a chance to compete with the big boys, especially now that Sony has announced Project Morpheus. So once again, I say… LEAVE FACEBOOK ALONE!!!!!

Meet the HTC One M8

HTC also had huge news yesterday with the announcement of the HTC One M8. It’s a 5” phone with a 1920×1080 full HD screen, running a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 Quad Core CPU. But where it really gets interesting is the Duo Camera setup. On the rear, there are two lenses. A primary one with a ⅓” UltraPixel sensor, and then a smaller secondary camera that they’re using to determine the depth of the items in a picture. This can be used to create a bokeh effect that you get with fancier DSLRs.

AirHelp Finds Money Airlines Owe You

Hey! This is a cool new service. You know how those airlines are all like we’ll just cancel your flight or delay you because we CAN! And then your plans are all screwed up? And you get no sympathy. Did you know you could actually get compensation for that?!?! AirHelp is here to well… help you with that. You put in all the information into their website or a mobile app… was your flight delayed, canceled altogether, or overbooked? Give them your flight information, the origin and destination and flight number and all that. Then let them do the legwork to figure out if the airline owes you money for the trouble. Because you know the airline isn’t going to just offer it up! And if you’re eligible, they’ll get a hold of the money, take 25% for doing the work, and put the rest in your bank account.
